Starry Night Matcha Bowl is thrown by hand from iron-rich Jianyang clay and fired in a wood-and-gas kiln for over twelve hours. As the glaze melts, iron crystals rise to the surface and form the oil spot pattern you see — no two pieces are ever the same.
Why you'll love it
- Holds heat — thick walls keep tea warm through a long session.
- Softens the tea — many tea drinkers find the glaze rounds out the taste of oolong and black tea.
- One of a kind — the kiln, not a printer, decides the final pattern.
Best for
Oolong, black tea, pu-erh and aged white tea. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a tea friend, a housewarming or a birthday.
Material & craft
- Body: Jianyang iron-rich clay
- Glaze: natural mineral glaze, lead-free
- Firing: ~1300°C, reduction atmosphere
Care
Hand wash with warm water and let it air dry. Avoid the microwave, dishwasher and direct flame. A light film of tea will build up over time and is part of the cup's character.
