Description

This blue-and-white hand-pressed teacup with scrolling lotus design is hand-thrown from Jingdezhen kaolin and fired at 1380°C in a reduction atmosphere. The artisan hand-paints the scrolling lotus pattern on the lustrous white porcelain with natural cobalt pigment; the blue-and-white lines flow continuously, elegant and dignified. The classic shape sits steadily and reassuringly in the hand.

Why You'll Love It

• Comfortable Grip — The classic hand-pressed cup shape with a low center of gravity fits comfortably in your palm — a classic host cup for the tea table.

• True Tea Flavor — The dense, fine kaolin body doesn't absorb off-flavors from the tea, letting the aromas of oolong, pu'er, and black tea come through fully.

• Handcrafted Beauty — The scrolling lotus pattern is outlined by hand, every stroke painted by the artisan. Printing can't replicate the lively brushwork — each piece has subtle differences.

Best For

Oolong, black tea, pu'er, and aged white tea. Also an elegant Eastern gift for tea friends, housewarmings, and birthdays.

Material & Craftsmanship

• Body: Jingdezhen kaolin

• Glaze: Natural mineral glaze, underglaze blue-and-white, lead-free

• Firing: Approx. 1380°C, high-temperature reduction atmosphere

Care

Hand wash in warm water and let air dry. Do not place in the microwave or dishwasher, and keep away from direct open flame. With long-term use, the tea gradually develops a warm patina, giving the cup a unique character that deepens with time.

Questions & Answers

Is this piece handmade?

Yes. This teabowl is hand-thrown, glazed, and fired, so the glaze pattern on each piece will vary slightly from the photos.

Is the glaze safe for hot drinks?

The mineral glaze is lead-free and fired above 1380°C. It's safe for tea, coffee, and other hot drinks.

How should I care for it?

Rinse with warm water and let it air dry. Avoid the microwave and dishwasher, and avoid sudden temperature changes.

Will it arrive safely?

Every order ships in a double-boxed carton with foam padding. If it arrives damaged, send us a photo and we'll replace it for you.

  • Lovely gift

Bought it for my father's birthday. He loves it. Slightly smaller than I expected, but the photos list the size clearly.
